Why i hate America, Vol 2. Womens rights or: I'm more of a feminist than you are. [Feb. 6th, 2011|12:22 pm]

I've recently gotten into the series "An Idiot Abroad" on the science channel. Created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant of "The Office" fame. The premise of the show is they send one of their friends, Karl, a skeptic and someone who loathes to travel (aka me) to different countries to experience their culture and everything associated with that. Most of the entertainment is derived from Karl's general foul demeanor and him generally having a bad time. Through the hilarity though he says some very profound things.

Yesterday's episode was him going to Jordan, but he stopped in Israel first. He visited "the place Jesus Christ" was born. After the segment he mentioned on how people usually get teary eyed or cry over it, but then he said that the thing that people should be "having a tear over" was this giant concrete wall that separates Palestine from Israel that was no more than 250 feet away. Saying that, "that's the real reason we should be depressed."

Later in Jordan he was talking to a local he was staying with, they came in mid conversation but he was pretty much asking about what would happen if accidentally saw a woman without her shroud on (Hijab or something it's called). More or less he was worried about maybe catching her coming out of the bathroom or something (things that are normal and happen everyday). This was a general concern because he was worried about her getting stoned to death just because she might not of answered when he knocked on the bathroom door.

So today in the shower it dawned on me, how fucking awful it is that we live in a world where this exists. Not only do we live in a world where a place of religious importance is smack dab in the middle of a militarized zone, but a woman could be stoned to death because someone whose unfamiliar with their culture accidentally saw her without her shit on. Fuck that noise.

Then i started drawing parallels to Middle East now, and America, possibly a few years from now. With the GOP trying to redefine rape (basically saying that rape isn't rape anymore) what's the difference between these people and those that throw stones at women? I would consider both of these things incredibly heinous acts, but because of culture one's more acceptable than the other? To be frank, and incredibly mean, if you're a woman and a republican now i hope you get drugged up and raped constantly. And by raped constantly, i mean "made love to legally now with the redefine." I don't understand the people who elect these other people that try to pass these laws. We're not even on the same planet any more.

I think it boils down to general Americans being over privileged, selfish, narrow minded, and incredibly greedy. The general consensus is, if i don't like something, it shouldn't be legal. Abortion is a big one still thrown around today. Abortion is an awful thing. I remember when laura first told me she was pregnant, a few weeks later we had the abortion talk (for a lot of reasons, mainly we weren't together any more at the time), and i kept telling her it was up to her. As it should be. I personally, don't like abortion, at all. Medical reasons aside, i think it's an awful thing to go through. With someone who was pregnant with my child i couldn't be like, YEAH JUST GO GET AN ABORTION! With that said, what i like or dislike, doesn't really matter as it should be up to the individual to do whatever they want to their own body.

I just don't understand where this country is going any more. Ignorance piled on fear some how means you're American. Hating smart people (or 'book learners', if you will) is American. Shitting out babies you can't afford because big man in the sky will punish you if you don't is somehow American.

Womens rights, gay rights, seat belt laws, these are all things that are fucking up America. How are seat belt laws and womens rights the same? Because it's one concession after another. What people think is "good" or "how it should be" doesn't mean it should be turned into a law. Just because christians think it's a good idea to teach intelligent design in school doesn't mean it should be made a law. Just because homophobes think butt sex isn't fun doesn't mean it should be made into a law. Just because it's safer for me to wear a seat belt don't mean it should be made a law. Just because republicans think that it's okay to have sexual relations with a woman that you drugged into unconsciousness doesn't mean it should be made into a law.

Do you get it? Just because you think it's a good idea doesn't mean it's really fair for anyone else.

I completely agree with your stance on abortion; I ain't the one growing the thing, it's not my call.

Actually I agree with most of this, though I'd like to change the rape republican thing to specifically involve the people who voted for and were involved in the creation of that law.

Also An Idiot Abroad is lol and I lol'd when they made him walk the entire goddamn great wall of china, though I have my doubts he actually did. That would take a damn long time and some of that shit is dangerous

Old republicans aren't republicans. Over the past 12 years they have become the party of retard and ass and jesus.

Republican used to mean government played a small role, and was super conservative toward spending. Then they became the party of the patriot act and WE'LL JUST PUT IT ON THE CREDIT CARD!

Also know there isn't any sort of "tea party." All "tea party" candidates ran as republican, maybe 1 or 2 was independent. And now-a-days when people say they're "republican" they're referring to the pig fucking kind. Anyone who used to be republican would now probably say they're an independent.

So no, if this law passes i hope all republicans get raped. Because it's they're bat shit party that's passing the law, they should be the first to feel it's consequences. I don't really believe at looking at individuals when they belong to a group. It's like saying Ohhh Jimmy here belongs to the KKK but he's not really racist he just needed something to do on the weekends. NO, he's a skin head fuck who's fucking up the party for everybody else.

Or furries. That whole furry comic would support my argument except you replace republican, or, any group, where furry is http://static.funnyjunk.com/pictures/fail110.png

Also i don't think he actually walked the whole wall. But i thought it was hilarious how dilapidated it was past the tourist part. Yeah fuck china. That guy is almost exactly like me demeanor wise.

I see where you're coming from, and I understand it, but how do you judge the group without looking at the individuals inside it first? And the worst of a group is always going to speak the loudest; are we going to assume that an entire group is comprised exclusively of the negative qualities of that one guy in the back that no one else in the group can stand and that constantly fucks it up for everyone else?

I'm not arguing the political commentary [or the KKK thing] so much as trying to understand where the line is drawn in regards to your train of thought, as it leans a bit towards mass generalizations and assumptions 8D

Also, that link's broke

I use mass generalizations because that's what politics is. It's not really that though, i just look at what the core values of your group are, and make judgments based off those.

Let me preface this by saying i'm not a democrat. I really don't even want to vote anymore.

There is a mass merging ideologically and politically going on. you know, you shop at wal mart, you're christian, you work in a factory (probably unemployed right now anyways). And this somehow turned into the republican party. When you have someone like Sarah Palin as a FIGUREHEAD for a POLITICAL PARTY, what the fuck is going on? I'm still dumbstruck that she even had a chance to be VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Then the tea party was something like a tumor that fell of her, and republicans did their "rallying their base" against "that nigger obama who's probably not even american", because that's enough of a platform to get dumb bigots to vote (which is still shamefully half the country). But republicans didn't understand that this tea party thing would actually take over the party.

Right now our country is fucked because it's ran by corporations and profit margins. It's a time right now that the people, you know, the 90% of us who aren't super duper rich, to be smart and call politicians on their bullshit. People have no fucking healthcare (every country we occupy does though), people have no fucking jobs because they were exported thanks to cap and trade and NAFTA (which was set up by clinton), and we're at war for no reason at all except to make people in the business of war richer.

It's overwhelming how fucked we are right now, and i personally don't like to think about it because it's depressing. But anyways.

When you have a group of people, who you just have to shout talking points too (even though they oh so eagerly listen), you can get away with everything. Immigrants, gays, abortion, war on christmas, all that shit is a distraction that's been used forever, AND IT'S ONLY THAT SAME FUCKING GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN STUCK ON IT FOREVER, and we can't get anything done.

Intelligent design has become more important than health care.
Stopping gays from getting married has become more important than stopping a war.
Figuring out what country our president came from has become more important than fixing the economy.
Immigrants working shitty jobs getting paid nothing has become more important than stopping backroom wallstreet gambling.

We have become creature comforted and demons have been allowed to run amok with our lives. And it's all done under the guise of republicans/jesus/fox news/terror/freedom/teaparty

So that's why i feel like that.
